The People's Patents Group (PPG) of the Human Rights Law Network, New Delhi seeks applicants for a 6 month Research Fellowship in Public Health and Intellectual Property and Agricultural Biotechnology and Intellectual Property.

Background

The Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) is a collective of lawyers and social activists, dedicated to the use of legal system to advance human rights.

HRLN collaborates with social movements, human rights organizations, and grass-roots development groups to enforce the rights of, amongst others, farmers, tribal, HIV positive and affected people, people with disabilities, prisoners, etc. The primary focus of HRLN's People's Patent Group is:

To explore the possibility of the use of legal tools like Public Interest Litigation and legal interventions to protect the rights of the poor and needy.

To undertake legal research in the area of Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), public health and agriculture/ food in India and influence policy and law making process.

Publish policy papers and policy documents

Organize seminars for sharing knowledge and advocating on key policy issues.

Duration

The research fellowship will have fixed duration of 6 months.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria are as follows:

Applicants must:

Have completed or be completing degrees in law, economics, public health, agriculture, biotechnology or a related discipline.

Have excellent written and spoken English

Prove the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and with a range of professional workers and individuals in the community.

Demonstrate an interest in this discipline (Publications, paper presentations, etc)

Key Responsibilities

The research fellow is expected to, among others:

Assist on ongoing research projects including briefing papers, Public Interest Litigations, Publications, etc

Travel to various parts of the country for empirical research

Participation & representation in national and international events

Prepare reports on programme activities and projects administered under the Programme.

Work on a publishable working paper on the issue of his/her interest.

The Terms and Conditions of the Research Fellow

1.. A written agreement containing the terms and conditions of the research fellowship will be signed between the Human Rights Law Network and the research fellow.

2.. The research fellow will receive a stipend of Rs. 8000 per month. There shall be no other additional remuneration, subsidy, Compensation or entitlement from the Human Rights Law Network to the research fellow.

3.. Except where otherwise indicated to the Research Fellow in writing, travel expenses( to Delhi) will be the responsibility of the research fellow except expenses incurred relating to work in the organization.

4.. At the end of the research fellowship, the fellow will be required to prepare a written exit report evaluating the fellowship.
